If you are contemplating going on a trekking holiday, chances are you are thinking of going to Nepal. The stillness and awe of the mountains, the sun-soaked thatched villages and green rice paddy terraces, the willing porters and the knowledgeable, charming Sherpas all add up to make a trek in Nepal a very special experience. The wonder of Kathmandu and the chance to see Everest or the Annapurnas rounds off a perfect destination for a trek.
Between the tropical jungles of the Terai and the frozen Himalayan peaks high above, almost the entire range of the world's climate, and its flora and fauna, can be found. Teak, mango and spreading banyan give way to pine and oak, to juniper and to flamboyant rhododendron and poinsettia, and higher to spruce and fir and so to lichen-covered birch atop the mist-shrouded passes. Only then do the trekking trails break out of the tree-line onto the tundra and towards the snows.
We feature two treks, one to Everest Base Camp and one to Annapurna Sanctuary, however, there are many more routes available depending on your level of fitness and your particular interests. Treks in Nepal are easily combined with a few days rafting or a wildlife safari or just spending time soaking up the culture.
